UniCat is part of the 2012 founded Gerhard Ertl Center.

The Gerhard Ertl Center serves as a think tank, a host institution for outstanding guest scientists, a location for strategy meetings, the home to the Cluster of Excellence UniCat, its Graduate School BIG-NSE, and research projects in the field of catalysis e. g. Inkulab and the Einstein Center for Catalysis.
