Junior Professorship for Gregor Wehinger

Dr. Gregor Wehinger from the UniCat group led by Professor Matthias Kraume has been appointed junior professor at Clausthal University of Technology. Professor Wehinger represents the teaching subject “Chemical Process Dynamics” at the Institute of Chemical and Electrochemical Process Engineering, according to an announcement by TU Clausthal.

Born in Singen (Baden-Wuerttemberg), he initially studied Technology Management at the University of Stuttgart before switching to Energy and Process Engineering at BerlinUniversity of Technology.
Gregor Wehinger spent a year abroad at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona and, following a brief excursion into the industry, he started his doctoral studies at BerlinUniversity of Technology. There he successfully completed his doctoral thesis in the summer of 2016 under the title “Particle-resolved CFD simulations of catalytic flow reactors” as a member of Professor Matthias Kraume’s group in the Cluster of Excellence UniCat.
While working on his doctoral thesis, he spent three months as a visiting research fellow at Brown University in Providence in the USA. On the 2015 annual meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), which took place in Salt Lake City (USA) in November 2015, he was honored for his presentation on the topic of dry reforming of methane in fixed-bed reactors.
The 32-year-old scientist’s research concerns itself with particle-resolved CFD simulations of catalytic flow reactors. This has points of contact with the fields of fluid dynamics and chemical process engineering.
