The UniCat junior research group leader, Dr Anna Fischer, was offered and has accepted an appointment as a Professor at the Albert Ludwigs University, Freiburg. Since August 1, 2014, Dr Fischer has been a Professor of Inorganic Functional Materials at the Institute of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry, University of Freiburg.
Professor Anna Fischer’s research group has since moved to Freiburg. Only four of her UniCat Doctoral candidates will be supervised by Dr Fischer from afar until finishing their projects.
Anna Fischer was the junior research group leader in the research fields E2, D2, and E3 at the Cluster of Excellence, UniCat, from November 2009 to July 2014. During that time she published 32 publications thereof 22 UniCat publications. From November 2010 until her appointment as professor Dr Fischer was a member of the UniCat Board.
In 2013, Anna Fischer, successfully submitted the project EDELKAT to the NanoMatFutur Competition for excellent young scientists. The more than 1.6 million Euro project will run for four years. This competition was invoked by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) in the field of nanomaterials.
Since January 2014, Dr Fischer has been working on this project with a Postdoc and two PhD candidates, developing nanostructured electrocatalysts for fuel cells.
Here the group places a particular focus on the development of porous catalysts that contain exactly one active nanoparticle per pore. "Via this structural feature we hope to significantly increase the long-term stability of these catalysts in the fuel cell," says Anna Fischer.
