Outstanding research of understanding the molecular basis of heterogeneous catalysis is honoured
Prof. Freund
Professor Dr. Hans-Joachim Freund, director at Fritz-Haber-Institut and senior researcher in UniCat, receives the Karl-Ziegler-Prize of German Chemical Association (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker, GDCh). The award is valued at 50.000 € and will be given at GDCh Wissenschaftsforums Chemie on September 4th in Bremen.
Freund is awarded for his outstanding research of understanding the molecular basis of heterogeneous catalysis which is closely connected to Karl Ziegler. Professor Dr. Joachim Sauer of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin will give the laudation.
The award is in recognition of Freund's research on the interaction of molecules on metal oxide surfaces. Furthermore he received new insights into the interaction of metal and metal oxide nano particles on these metal oxide surfaces.
The GDCh Wissenschaftsforum Chemie 2011 in Bremen will be the GDCh top event in the International Year of Chemistry and, moreover, the largest chemistry event in the German-speaking world in 2011.
The first awardee of Karl-Ziegler-Prize was Gerhard Ertl in 1998. Nine years later he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
